Thermal-hydraulic passive system reliability-based design approach
نویسنده
چکیده
In order to enhance the safety of new advanced reactors, optimization of the design of the implemented passive systems is required. Therefore, a reliability-based approach to the design of a thermal–hydraulic passive system is being considered, and a limit state function (LSF)-based approach elicited from mechanical reliability is developed. The concept of functional failure, i.e., the possibility that the load will exceed the capacity in a reliability physics framework, in terms of performance parameter is introduced here for the reliability evaluation of a natural circulation passive system, designed for decay heat removal of innovative light water reactors. Water flow rate circulating through the system is selected as passive system performance characteristic parameter and the related limit state or performance function is defined. The probability of failure of the system is assessed in terms of safety margin, corresponding to the LSF. Results help the designer to determine the allowable limits or set the safety margin for the system operation parameters, to meet the safety and reliability requirements. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Building confidence in the reliability assessment of thermal-hydraulic passive systems
Thermal-hydraulic (T-H) passive systems play a crucial role in the development of future solutions for nuclear power plant technologies. A fundamental issue still to be resolved is the quantification of the reliability of such systems. The difficulty comes from the uncertainties in the evaluation of their performance, because of the lack of experimental and operational data and of validated mod...
متن کاملOpen Issues Associated With Passive Safety Systems Reliability Assessment
The efforts conducted so far to deal with and evaluate the reliability of passive safety systems (as the thermal-hydraulic passive systems), being implemented in advanced water cooled reactor designs, has aroused an amount of open issues. They should be addressed and conveniently worked out, since it is the major goal of the international community (e.g IAEA) to strive to harmonize the differen...
متن کاملPassive Teleoperation of Hydraulic Systems Dedication
Hydraulic machines have been widely used in a variety of high power applications. Typically these machines are operated by an operator. In past research the interaction safety between the operator and the machine was seldom investigated. This dissertation addressess the interaction stability issue by exploiting the safety guarantees offered by passive systems. The hydraulic machine considered i...
متن کاملDevelopment And Evaluation Of A Simplified Modeling Approach For Hydraulic Systems
This paper presents how a hydraulic system can be properly modeled for hydraulic balancing, knowledge of flow distribution, coupled simulation, and evaluation of control, etc. It focuses on water-based heating and cooling systems, which generally have high energy efficiency in design but could perform poorly in reality due to the undersensing condition and strong thermal-hydraulic coupling. The...
